Alcohol- the Gift That Gives More Than You Think

April 16, 2007 / by steve725

Sporadic thoughts on this hot night in Turkey, a little bored. Im drinking a cold German beer, immoral technique in the background and obviously typing with no direction in mind. I think ill talk a little bit about alcohol and some associated parallels. Its crazy that consuming alcohol can make or break you in a huge range of situations. Im sure the majority of my readers have been involved in, or observed somebody show there true colors while drinking. I think that in the majority of cases, alcohol magnifies some of your less than apparent traits. Like, that one guy/girl you once thought of as “having it all together” gets drunk and acts like a desperate buffoon…I know that I never look at that person the same. There is many variables to the paradox of drinking. It can bring out favorable traits in shy people or quite people etc…but can also make just about anyone transparent--not good for the people with something to hide. In a perfect world, people would discover who they are or at least be on the right path by the time they hit the grand age of 21, but unfortunately, most aren’t. I think that fact is the generator of most fakeness. Some just have no sense of self and so they feel the need to mirror someone else. Now that ok when you’re 15 and trying to be Tony Hawk or something, but it usually becomes an personal problem around the age of 20. Alcohol is a universal emotion elixir. Its used in moments of joy and despair and everywhere in between. The term “double edged sword” is very fitting for the sauce. Swing it one way and it can make the happy happier, but swing it the other way and you can find yourself contemplating your existence in a pool of your own vomit without your pants in a taco bell bathroom. I think the key to becoming a successful party animal is staying grounded. Knowing the party will end eventually with or without you and that just because you are not thinking about it, the clock is still ticking and the world is still spinning. You have to have all the elements of a successful life in order-elements vary with lifestyles but you know what I mean. When you start to trade those elements for a drink, it wont be long before you find you self with nothing but a tip cup out in front of your local liquor store with the words “small change for a big beer” written on the back of a torn Natural Light 12 pack. So to all the people out there toasting to the good life, the next rounds on me. And to all the 30 year old teenagers-put the bottle down and grow the fuck up.
