Patriotism: an American Pastime

Patriotism: an American pastime.

The reason I picked that title for this blog is because I think the true definition of the word patriotism has been lost in a sea of greed, corruption, and a generally demoralized populous.

The majority of people in America today are so blinded by lies, twisted truths, or different media outfits that push people into believing something that will benefit someone else- political parties and billionaire corporations being the main beneficiaries in most cases. Paid to tell certain stories, certain ways to generate fear and hype. Fear or war, fear of death, fear of wide spread disease, and fear of all the other catastrophes that consumes viewers on an hourly basis.

So why fear? Why drama? Why report all the shity things going on in this country? I think the most obvious answer to me is that it sells. For some reason, no one likes stories about good things. Stories like people doing TRULY selfless acts to better their neighborhood, city, state or country. Now I know these stories make it to the news every once and a while, but what is it sandwiched in between? Usually death, destruction, disaster and terror. And of course the latest fashion trends started by rich talentless sluts.

So lets talk about the people that decide what makes it to the news and what doesn’t. Are all these people like the character that Kellse Grammer played in the movie “15 minutes” Just hoping to catch the foulest, most indecent, acts of human and mother nature on camera to get his/her name out there and boost their network to the top of the ratings. Do these people not know that they are making the majority of Americans say to themselves “this country is going to hell in a hand basket” on a daily basis? Or are they so delusional that they actually believe they are doing the American public a service buy “keeping them informed”. So lets say a smaller network just started to broadcast “good news”, tales of some of some of good things we are doing in Iraq, large volunteer efforts, or like I said earlier, truly selfless acts. Stories that would not only make people happy, but influence people to do good things themselves. What do you think would happen to them? Would you watch? I know what my answer is. But unfortunately myself and the people who think like me are vastly out numbered but the people who want to know how many people died in Iraq today. Or what that whore Anna Nicole Smith had in her system when she died. Or who is begging Al Sharpton for forgiveness for dropping the “N” bomb in public.

So how do you make it in the news business? If “good” doesn’t sell then what? Bad, simply put is the answer to that question, but when you have three or four major networks battling for the #1 spot in news-I guess the worst will win. So while they pollute our homes with their twisted, hyped up horseshit- in my mind, all they are doing is convincing me that there is no hope for the land we all call home.

BUT, does that mean there is no hope for me and you? Hell no it doesn’t.

T.V is kind of like the voice of America more or less. And so when all I ever hear from this voice is corruption, greed, betrayal, negative filth and insanely ridiculous trends and fads sweeping the country, I want nothing to do with it. Now, im not saying I want nothing to do with America, im saying if this is what we have come to, ie--making money off of other people’s misery in every way possible and for the right price getting away with whatever the fuck you do--my faith in the once essential goodness and honesty of America people is long gone.

Now, as I merge back to my title so I can wrap up this odyssey brutal truth, ill quickly break down how patriotism is an ideology that’s on its last leg. Webster defines patriotism as- “love and/or devotion to ones country”. When do you hear the term “I love this country” in America? When an honest man gets a job or opens a business? Probably not because it was him and him alone that got off his ass and did something for him self and/or his family. You would be better off finding that statement on some courthouse steps after a burglar just successfully sued a hard working family cause he got shot when he kicked the door of their house down. Or in the house of a drug dealer opening his welfare check. I guess these individuals are our modern day patriots.

    You're on the right track.
You mention TV but not radio. Have you tried tuning out on music and turning on AM radio?
